Yesterday afternoon we spent time with Kelly & Brad. We'll be photographing their wedding in August. They were fabulous. These are some of the photographs from the session that started at The Horseshoe Valley Resort and finished at The Sticky Fingers Bar & Grill for delicious wings.
Another assignment for mycollingwood, meant that Friday night was spent on a pub crawl. This must be a first for me and Christa since our college days. Various venues in Thornbury and Clarksburg, including The Dam Pub,Sisi On Main,The Mill Cafe, Thornbury Manor, The Marsh Street Centre, and The Loft Gallery, played host to different Jazz Trio's. It was a great night and if you'd like to see more photographs we have posted the best of them on Pictage.
Saturday afternoon saw us at the Beaver Valley Community Center for the Big Band Show. The lighting was not conducive to great photography although the dancing from Dan Amores and Joanna Kassoulides, and Dieter Hessel and Colleen Clancy, was terrific.
Sunday saw the last skiing of the season at Blue Mountain, Collingwood. At the top of the mountain it was 21 degrees C and plenty of people were taking advantage of the weather to get a bit of skiing or snowboarding in before the slopes closed. Christa was there to get some photographs for the Enterprise-Bulletin, our local paper.
Evolving
We're rapidly approaching month five of our 'Grand Adventure'. To celebrate the fact we decided a new logo was needed.
Christa and I both felt our old logo did not visually reflect the direction we want to take our wedding and portrait photography. We want our photography to have a contemporary, modern and artistic feel and look. With the new logo we believe that it says this much more effectively than the old one. As an added bonus it is much cleaner and works well on both black and white backgrounds.
So this is the third design we have had. Looking at the previous designs it in interesting to see how they have evolved. Perhaps third time lucky.
Yesterday we spent the day in Elmvale where every year they celebrate the Maple Syrup harvest with a Festival. For the last four years it has been cold and wet but this year it was far from that. Glorious blue skies and warm temperatures brought the crowds out in the thousands. There were entertainers, a fun fare, wares of all sorts to buy including jewellery by Christabel. as well as loads and loads of maple syrup. We covered the event for mycollingwood.ca. You'll find a bigger selection of photographs there under the photo gallery. It was a wonderful day. Christa sold some of her jewelery as well which made it even better.
It was a beautiful day in Collingwood today so we took the opportunity to take Maggie down to the beach in Craigleith. There we spent an hour letting her cavort in Georgian Bay chasing and retrieving sticks we threw for her. It's amazing to think just a week ago she was dubious about going in the water. Now we have a hard time keeping her out of it.
In our quest to offer our clients something exciting and a little different we came across Vision Art. Their books are beautifully made and are perfect for people looking for something more modern and contemporary. They come in various sizes, the one below being the most popular at 9"x12". We'll be calling them our Contemporary Wedding Book
Our new backdrop arrived today from Vistek. We'd been using a white backdrop before and getting some lovely portraits so we were keen to get our own. Of course not having our own studio yet made things tricky but we found the HiLite Backdrop. from Lastolite. It's 6'x7' and if you have a look at the photographs below it produces a nice clean white with no shadows. The subjects can be almost on top of the backdrop making it great for working in places with little space. The set up took about ten minutes which included setting up the lights (we only used two lights) and the backdrop. Thanks to the models, my lovely wife Christa (the other half of Isis), her Dad Bob and the not so little puppy (now) Maggie.
Easter in the Snow
So my first Easter in Canada and it's a white one! Made the Easter Egg Hunt interesting this morning. Saw this young lady searching with a stick below the tree, managed to get a shot before she saw me. Happy Easter Everyone.
Photo Course on the Grand Princess
Just returned from a week leading a training course on the Grand Princess. I was on the Grand for the Millennium celebrations working as a photographer so it was interesting to be back on board as a trainer. This time she was sailing from Galvastan, Texas to Costa Maya, Roatan, Belize City, Cozumel and then back to Galvastan. I always enjoy these training course. It's great to see new people joining the company excited to be there and taking in the sites and sounds of new places they've not seen before.
The cruise was made more exciting by the fact that two passengers fell overboard on the first night and were, five hours later, rescued. Incredible work by the ships company to find two people in the middle of the night. They went over at around 1am and were picked up at 6am.
It is good to be back home. During April I am going to try and make contact with wedding planners in Toronto and at various resorts around the area here in Collingwood. If people don't know we are here then they can't benefit from out services and that would be a shame. It will also be a good opportunity to pick the brains of people who know what's going on and what people are looking for from their wedding photographers.
We have been booked to shoot a 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration on May 16. It is always lovely to see people who have made it through life together for so long and to be a part of their special day is a great privilege.
