It is hard to believe, as I look at my last entry that over two weeks have passed since my last entry. It's been a busy couple of weeks.
This last week I had the pleasure conducting a training course on board the Sapphire Princess. Joining in Vancouver we sailed to Whittier in Alaska, via Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and College Fjord. It has to be said that the weather could have been better but even so, the scenery remains majestic whatever Mother Nature throws at you. I have often thought if you only ever do one cruise then the seven day Alaskan Cruise should be the one you choose. There is incredible scenery to enjoy and the local cuisine is always a delight. Mainly salmon and halibut… Sailing among the fjords also gives you a wonderful perspective on life and our place, as human beings, on the planet. I always leave Alaska somehow feeling better than when I arrived.
The guys and girls on my training course were a great bunch and we had a lot of fun, even if the last two days, for many of them, were spent finding their sea legs. One of the things I really enjoy about these courses is that I am working with people who are new to working on cruise ships and excited to be here. Long may that last for them.
With all that said I am glad to be going home. (I'm writing this in the Ted Stevens International Airport waiting for my flight home.)It is a good feeling to have somewhere to call home and an even better feeling to have someone to come home too.
